Weekly Events

 Kids ages 0 to 5 years old play with toys and hear stories. Space is limited, so get to the library early and pick up a ticket at the reference desk. , Youth Wing, 10 a.m., Free.  

Greenlight Kids Story Time During July and August, Greenlight is taking a summer hiatus from hosting children's book authors. However, there will still be stories in the kids section every Saturday morning—courtesy of their book-loving, kid-friendly staff! For ages 3 to 8.  Greenlight Bookstore, 686 Fulton St. (at S Portland St), 11 a.m., Free.  

 This free program offers kids fishing instruction and an introduction to aquatic ecology. Children 15 and under will learn about recreational fishing, fishing safety, and fish-friendly techniques, all while casting their lines on a spectacular summer day in the Park. See our  for more information. Kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call (718) 287-3400 x303 for details. 1 p.m. or 3 pm. Meet at the Audubon Center, Lincoln Rd & Ocean Ave., Free. 

 Gather around Peter and Willy, the statue of two beloved Keats characters, for storytelling adventures. Meet at the Imagination Playground (Lincoln Road entrace at Ocean Avenue). 2 p.m. Free. 

Crafts at Habana Outpost Creative crafts and workshops that teach kids about environmentalism and community. 757 Fulton St. at S. Portland Avenue, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Free.

 The carousel is open Thursdays through Sundays and school holidays, 12 to 6 p.m. $2 per ride; $9 for a book of five tickets. Enter Prospect Park at the Willink entrance, located at Ocean and Flatbush Avenues and Empire Boulevard.

Lefferts House Events Today the historic house is hosting Race Around the Farmyard, where the whole family can participate in potato sack races, stilts and other old-fashioned games (3:30 to 4:30 p.m.) Lefferts Historic House at Prospect Park (Use entrance at Empire Boulevard and Flatbush and Ocean Avenues), Kids free, $3 suggested for adults.

 Become a signals expert! Play and learn with subway signals from the Museum’s collection in our “red light, green light” game. Ready, set go! For ages 5+. New York Transit Museum, Corner of Boerum Pl & Schermerhorn St, 1:30 p.m., Free with museum admission (adults $7, kids 2-17 and seniors $5).

Puppetworks' The Jungle Book Rudyard Kipling's 1894 fables of India
with an original song score adapted for Marionettes. Suggested for kids 3+. Reservations suggested at 718-965-3391 or puppetworks@verizon.net. 338 Sixth Ave. at Fourth Street. 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. $8 adults, $7 kids (note, no credit cards accepted). 

Prospect Park Zoo Events On Saturdays and Sundays, there are events for kids going on all day including sea lion feedings, keeper chats, close-up encounters with individual animals and more. See today's schedule here. , 450 Flatbush Avenue. Free with zoo admission of $8 adults, $5 kids 3-12. 

Brooklyn Children's Museum Events The museum has events for kids all day. See their schedule here. 145 Brooklyn Ave. bet. St. Marks and Prospect. Free with admission of $7.50 for everyone 1 year and older.

Special Events

 As part of a daylong celebration, the shop will have a kids coloring contest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with all participants receiving a "special crazy crayon" to take home. 720 Franklin Ave., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free.  

 Prospect Park is offering a basic canoeing class for adults and kids 8 years old and up, led by urban park rangers. Audubon Center at the Boathouse, near the Lincoln Road/Ocean Avenue entrance, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free.

 Storyteller and musician Tammy Hall brings the age-old art of storytelling to Prospect Park. Nature’s Helpers at Prospect Park Audubon Center
Spend time outside enjoying nature while helping to keep the Park clean. Gloves, garbage bags, and trash grabbers will be provided.

Prospect Park Discover Tour Find out how to use binoculars to spot some of the incredible species of birds that call Prospect Park home. Learn the history of the Boathouse and see little-known curiosities about the Park and its animal residents. Meet at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse (just inside the Lincoln Road/Ocean Ave. entrance to Prospect Park). For adults and older kids. 3-4 p.m. Free.
