SUV Crashes into Building at Washington, Cop Car Also Hit

Seven people, including three police officers, were injured in this morning's accident, according to the FDNY.

An SUV crashed into the bedroom window of an apartment at the corner of Eastern Parkway and Washington Avenue this morning in a three-car accident involving a police car this morning.

Seven people, including three police officers were injured in the crash, which took place at about 8:30 a.m. One person received "moderate" injuries, the rest had minor injuries, according to an FDNY spokesman.

A bedroom window was shattered and the outside wall scarred at 175 Eastern Parkway, a 78-unit-building.

Mrs. Ramgattnee was in her bedroom when she the SUV landed just a few feet from her.

"I was just sitting on the bed and I heard a big bang. I thought it was a crash on the road. I didn't know it was coming in the window," said Ramgattnee, who declined to give her first name and who lives in the apartment with her 22-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter.

"I'm a little scared, because you never know what could happen again," she added.

in the city, with 130 people being injured in accidents  between 2005 and 2009, according to the DOT, which recently released a new safety plan for the strip.

At a little after 9 a.m. this morning, the SUV was still on the sidewalk in front of the buiding, its front end and side crumpled.

A black sedan, which also appeared to be totaled, was parked on the service road on Eastern Parkway. Behind it was the police car, which received a large dent to the front end on the driver's side near the front door.

Several area residents and workers who gathered at the crash commented on the problems with safety at this intersection.

"This corner is a really bad corner," said Van Miller, a maintenace worker in the building that was hit.

"This is a strip where people notoriously speed," said another man. He declined to give his name but noted that he lived nearby with his two young children.

"This is an incredibly trecherous strip," he added.
