"She was real nice ... kindhearted," said Vanetta Washington, who lived one floor below Mosely at the supported housing facility for people recovering from substance abuse since Mosely moved in about 18 months ago.

Washington remembered Mosely as a quiet woman who loved to read and spend time at home with her cat, but could also make other people laugh.

"She was funny," Washington said. "She liked to cook, and when she cooked she would always share. ... I just had some of her potato salad."

According to Washington, Bell visited Mosely several times a week, often with his young son in tow.

"I don't understand how he did this. They had such a good relationship. She loved him so much," Washington said.

A janitor at 515 St. Marks down the street found blood on the doorknob and inside stairs of his building the morning of the murder. That building was also blocked off as a crime scene Monday.

Bell was charged with murder and with criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
