Precinct Chief Discusses Burglaries in 77th Precinct

Thanks to the arrest of 14 members of the 'Brower Boys" last May, burglaries in Prospect and Crown Heights are down 60 percent, Dep. Inspector Elvio Capocci said.

At a public safety town hall meeting Wednesday night, the Commanding Officers of the 77th precinct, Deputy Inspector Elvio Capocci, said that burglaries have dropped by 60 percent.

"We have 30 for the year so far. In 2011, we were doing that in 28 days," he said.

The reason for the drop was a Facebook-based sting operation in spring of 2012 that landed 17 members of the 'Brower Boys" crew in prison

He said 90 to 95 percent of the burglaries were due to unlocked windows on fire escapes.
