Police Blotter: Gunpoint Mugging, (Another) Franklin Park Purse Swipe, $7,000 Water Main Heist, More

Man Robbed at Gunpoint

Two thieves used a gun to held up a man on Dean Street between Vanderbilt and Underhill, stealing $1,220 worth of jewelry and other items.

The mugging happened at just about midnight on May 30 as the man was walking home from the Brooklyn Museum. The thieves made off with a gold chain worth $500, a $300 wedding ring, another gold ring worth $200, $60 Nike sneakers and a $160 cell phone, according to a police report.

Vanderbilt Avenue Mugging

A 36-year-old man was robbed by five men and one woman at the corner of Bergen and Vanderbilt Saturday night.

The group surrounded him at 11:15 p.m. just as he was crossing the street and stole his iPhone, which was in his chest pocket, according to a police report.

 

Franklin Park Purse Swipe

Another purse has been stolen at Franklin Park.

A 26-year-old woman said her purse was taken from a bench at where she left it unattended for 10 minutes on Sunday, May 15 just before 1 a.m. She reported the theft to the cops on May 31 after her credit cards were used, according to a police report. The woman also lost $64 in cash and a 30-day unlimited metrocard, according to a police report.

This is at least the , located at 618 St. Johns Place at Franklin Avenue, in less than a week. On May 21 a 29-year-old woman’s purse, which she also left unguarded, was taken.

 

$7,000 Water Main Valve Heist

For at least the second time, thieves have tried to steal water main parts from the street work project on Eastern Parkway.

On May 30, a contractor for the city reported that $7,000 worth of equipment – two water main valves and 10 water main fittings ­– was missing from the site after they were left unattended overnight. The items were taken on April 12, according to a police report. The report did not indicate why the man waited so long to report the crime.

On April 30 after they tried to steal a $150 water main pipe at the same site.

 

Unguarded TV Stolen

A 47-year-old man reported that the television and DVD player he left unattended on the sidewalk were stolen.

The man left the items in front of a building on St. Francis Place (near Franklin and Lincoln) on May 30 at about 11:30 a.m. When he came back at noon, the items were gone. Also taken were two cablevision boxes, according to a police report.

 

Motorcycle Theft

A 29-year-old man’s motorcycle was stolen from a parking spot on Dean Street between Franklin and Classon avenues on June 2.

The motorcycle was a 2002 Kawasaki worth about $3,500, according to a police report.
