Special Events 

Children's Story Time The Fort Greene bookstore's Story Time returns from its December hiatus, with the Greenlight staff reading their favorites, including Squeak, Rumble, Whomp! Whomp! Whomp!: A Sonic Adventure by Winton Marsalis, Because Amelia Smiled by David Ezra Stein, and This Moose Belongs to Me by Oliver Jeffers. Ages 3 to 8. Greenlight Bookstore, 686 Fulton St (at S Portland St), 11 a.m. Free.

Transit Museum: Mixed-Up Vehicles Books Create and color your very own fantasy vehicles! Amphibious buses? Trains with wings? Mix and match your favorite things in this silly bookmaking workshop. For ages 4+ New York Transit Museum, Corner of Boerum Pl & Schermerhorn St, 1:30 p.m., Free with museum admission (adults $7, kids 2-17 and seniors $5).  

Puppetworks' Punch & Judy Present Classic Tales This weekend only, Punch & Judy introduce three classic stories: "The 3 Wishes," "The Ugly Duckling," and "The 3 Little Pigs," all adapted for hand puppets by Nicolas CoppolaSuggested for kids 3+. Sun. Jan 6 sold out. Weekly Events 

Arfie's Sing Along and Open Play Each Saturday morning, ArtsCetera hosts a drop-in sing along and open play session for young children (up to age 4) and their parents/caretakers. 212 Smith Street at Butler, Carrol Gardens, $10 per family (two kids max). 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. 

Brooklyn Children's Museum Events The museum has events for kids all day. See their schedule here. 145 Brooklyn Ave. bet. St. Marks and Prospect. Free with admission of $9 for everyone 1 year and older.

Prospect Park Zoo Events On Saturdays and Sundays, there are events for kids going on all day including sea lion feedings, keeper chats, close-up encounters with individual animals and more. See today's schedule here. Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Avenue. Free with zoo admission of $8 adults, $5 kids 3-12.

Botanic Garden Discovery Workshop: Winter Blooms Families can explore blooming bulbs and branches and pot up your own paperwhite plant to bring flowers home. Lillian and Amy Goldman Atrium at the Visitor Center. Drop in anytime between 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 1000 Washington Ave. in Prospect Heights, Free with admission of $10 adults, $5 seniors, students, kids under 12 are free.

Baby Story Time Baby Story Time returns from its December hiatus, with Miss Nina who brings her pink guitar and original songs to Greenlight Bookstore. Ages 0-3. Greenlight Bookstore, 686 Fulton St (at S Portland St) in Fort Greene, 11 a.m. Free.

Musical: How I Became a PirateA new musical based on the best-selling children’s book. Jeremy’s talent for building sand castles and digging moats has earned him a place on the crew of Braid Beard’s ship. He has a great adventure, until he remembers all the things that he left behind. But will the pirates take him home? Recommended for ages 6 and up. Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College. Whitman Hall, corner of Campus Road and Ave. H. in Flatbush. 2 p.m. $7.

Arty Facts Kids ages 4-7 explore the galleries, participate in a family activity, and make their own art. Please do not bring siblings older than seven or younger than four. Class is free with suggested museum admission of $12 adults, kids are free, but there is a materials fee (for up to four participants) of $10. Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway in Prospect Heights. Meet in the Museum's Rubin Lobby at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.
