Where to Buy Flowers, Chocolate and Other Valentine's Day Gifts in Prospect Heights

Flowers:

Really, despite the name, this florist/gift store/skateboard shop is a fantastic flower shop. They also have such treats as hand-made cards, Liddabit candy bars and Dough & Batter heart butter cookies. They deliver, and will be open 9am-8pm on V-Day.

 

Kat Flower at 606 R&D 606 Vanderbilt Ave, bet. Prospect and St. Marks 

Prospect Heights resident and floral designer Kathleen Hyppolite will be selling her hand-tied bouquets out of 606 R&D on Valentine's Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. (or whenever she runs out). Bouquets cost between $30 and $50. 

 

Chrysanthemum 669 Washington Ave., at St. Marks, 347-955-5401

This newcomer recently changed floral designers, but still offers lovely bouquets at a wide range of prices. For Valentine's Day they are also selling handmade chocolate. They are still accepting orders for delivery. 

 

Petite Fleur 71 6th Ave. at Bergen, 718-623-6443

Petite Fleur is a tasteful full service florist that also features a nice collection of French furnishings and antiques. They deliver, and will be open 9am-8pm on V-Day.

 

Barbara's Flower Shop 1096 Bergen St. at Nostrand, 718-773-6644  

This area mainstay spot has been a flower shop since 1903 (and has been called Barbara's since 1972).  They also deliver.

 

DNY Natural Land, 322 Flatbush Ave. between Park and Sterling, 718-783-0038

This won't work for delivery, but if you're planning to pick-up, this grocery store is a good choice. They have an excellent flower selection, which they massively expand for Valentine's Day. We've been buying flowers there for more than a decade and have always found them to be high quality and fresh. Plus, they're right outside the 7th Avenue Q station, the flowers are reasonably priced, and they're open 24 hours.  

 

Chocolate:

Besides flowers, at Park Delicatessen they also have hand-made cards, Liddabit candy bars and Dough & Batter heart butter cookies.

For Valentine's Day this flower shop will also be selling handmade chocolate. 

 

Park Place Coffee, 634 Park Place bet. Classon and Franklin, 347-529-1203

This cafe, which just opened three weeks ago, offers a large selection of handcrafted, kosher chocolate. Most cost between $1.75 and $2.25 a piece. They're open until 7 p.m.

 

Blue Apron, 814 Union St. at 7th Ave., 718-230-3180

This gourmet shop has a large selection of upscale chocolate and chocolate desserts.  

 

The Chocolate Room, 86 5th Ave. Between Warren and Baltic (aka Prospect and Park places), 718-783-2900

This North Slope staple has a large selection of chocolate and chocolate desserts. Best of all, since they are also a cafe, they will be open until 11 p.m.

 

Cakes and Cookies:

BCakeNY, 702 Washington Ave. between St. Marks and Prospect places, 347-787-7199

This custom cake shop is selling cupcakes that look like roses (see photo gallery) at $30 for a half dozen or $50 a dozen. They'll deliver as well for an extra $25. You should order these online for guaranteed delivery on Valentine's Day, but you can also try dropping by and they'll sell you some if they have them. 

 

Owl and Thistle General Store, 720 Franklin Ave. bet Park and Sterling Places, (347) 469-0432

This store specializing in local, green, fair and direct-trade products has several varieties of heart-shaped cookies. 

 

Joyce Bakeshop, 646 Vanderbilt Ave. between Prospect and Park places, 718-623-7470

As of 4:49 p.m. on Feb. 13, this cafe and bakery had exactly one Valentine's Day themed dessert left, an iced sugar cookie (see photo gallery). Apparently one woman cleaned them out. Get it while it's available. They're open 'till 7.

 

Jewelry:

Lady J +1 679 Classon Ave. bet. Bergen and St. Marks 718.783.001

This newish store sells locally designed and crafted jewelry. 

 

Awedacity 806 Washington Ave. bet. Sterling and St. Johns Place, 718-789-0838

This clothing shop has a nice jewelry selection as well. This year they're also selling red g-strings wrapped to look like roses for $5.

This friendly shop has upscale vintage jewelry and designer clothing.

 

Calibar Imports 708 Franklin Ave., bet. Park and Sterling

This store carries jewelry from African, Asian and South American countries.

This store specializing in local, green, fair and direct-trade products sells a variety of jewelry and other gifts.

 

Jamila's, 461 Sterling Place (bet. Washington and Classon), (718) 398-1590

 This lovely boutique has jewelry and other gifts.  

 

Facets Fine Jewelry, 97a 7th Ave. at Union Street, 718-638-3898

This is probably the upscale jewelry store that is closest to Prospect Heights. They've got a small, but very nice, selection. 

 

O.N.A. 593A Vanderbilt Ave bet. St. Bergen and Dean 

This small boutique carries women's clothing, accessories, shoes and jewelry made and designed by local Brooklyn designers.

 

 

Lingerie and More:

Babeland, 462 Bergen St., at Flatbush, 718-638-3820

This store has a large selection of sex toys.  

 

Victoria's Secret, 139 Flatbush Ave. in the Altantic Center Mall, 718-623-2768

Who knew the Alantic Center Mall had a Victoria's Secret?  

 

Enelra Lingerie, 140 5th Ave., between Sterling and St. Johns, 718-399-3252

The store has a wide selection of lingerie, patterned hosiery, delicate sleepwear and boudoir accessories.
