5 Things: Storytelling, Sword Swallowing and a Special Gift for Mom

1. See a sideshow. You don't have to trek to the boardwalk to see a sideshow. Tonight performer Donny Vomit of the Coney Island Circus Sideshow performs a wide array of "strange, odd, weird and bizarre" acts at Branded Saloon. His specialty is the Human Blockhead, where he drives Six Inches of solid steel into the center of his skull (and lives). 603 Vanderbilt Avenue at Bergen. 9 p.m.

2. Enjoy some godly dancing.
For the next three days, BAM will play host to The Royal Ballet of Cambodia, which at one time only performed for "the gods." Movements in Apsara Mera have been constructed by Her Royal Highness Princess Norodom Buppha Devi, a former prima ballerina, joining two traditional stories of Khmer culture: “Churning of the Sea of Milk” and “The Legend of Kambu and Mera.” $16-20 at Howard Gilman Opera House.

3. Give a shout out to Mom. BRIC and Brooklyn Public Library are inviting residents to make "the ultimate Mother's Day gesture." Come to  Central Library's Shelby White & Leon Levy Information Commons, located at 10 Grand Army Plaza, tonight and record a short, free video shout out to your mom between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The videos will air between May 7 and May 12 on various channels, click here for more details.

4. Hear a good story. Tonight is the monthly Another Round Storytelling featuring Cammi Climaco. This month’s installment features the amazingly talented Cammi Climaco of Ask Me Stories and Six x Six at The PIT! Please join us for tales of drinking and debauchery, and throw your name in the cocktail shaker for the chance to tell your own. 8 p.m. at LaunchPad (721 Franklin Ave., Brooklyn, NY).

5. Don't move a thing. Alternate-side parking is suspended today and tomorrow.
