5 Things: West Indian Kiddie Parade, Country Punk, Carnival and Built in Brooklyn Craft Fair

Prospect Heights-area alternate side, subway and event information you won't want to miss.

 

1. You need music! Head to  to hear  Painless Parker describes his band on his Facebook page as "a mixed bag of country laments, sea shanties, murder ballads and classic rockers, filtered through a grimy, whiskey-stained punk lens," while Leon O. Strowski is described as like this: "His gravelly voice is beyond his years and his undeniable stage presence and song delivery is pure magic, like watching Jim Morrison back from the dead." 683 Washington Ave., bet. 2. You need crafts, local crafts. Luckily today there's the Built in Brooklyn Craft Fair, with clothing, food, drink and live music, and more. 12pm – 6pm, 721 Franklin Avenue

3. You need to get the kids out of the house. Head to the , which includes a kids parade, face painting, a double dutch contest and more.  12pm – 6pm on Franklin Avenue, between Park and Lincoln places. Free. See out for more options.

4. You need to know if your train is running ... It is! There are no subway changes affecting Prospect Heights stations all weekend, although you should note that the Q train is running through the tunnel until 5 a.m. Monday, so leave an extra 10 mini, according to the MTA.

5. ... and if you have to move your car. You're good until Tuesday because alternate side will be suspended Monday, Sept. 3 for Labor Day, according to the NYCDOT.
