5 Things: John Hodgman, 19th Century Indie Rock and Alternative Folk

1. Indulge in some 19th century indie rock. Head to The Way Station in Prospect Heights where Elisa Flynn performs "haunting yet wry ballads" and "tales of shipwrecks, the Civil War, and the Donner Party," according to The Way Station. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 9:30 p.m. No cover. More information here. 

2. Kick back with some alternative folk. Another option tonight is at Union Hall in Park Slope, where singer-songwriter Anya Marina, performs. 8pm doors/8:30pm show/$12 advance/$15 doors. More info here

3. Gear up for some Hodgmanesque comedy. John Hodgman performs at The Bell House in Gowanus on Friday, Dec. 21. 6:30pm doors / 7pm show / $15. More info here

4. Listen to something new. Get out of your musical rut by heading to BAM for Where (we) Live, performed by the Brooklyn-based quartet Sō Percussion in collaboration with guest artisans. Tonight, ceramics maker Paula Grief participates. $20 and up. More info here

5. Move your car. Alternate side parking rules are in effect today. The next suspension isn't until Christmas Day.
