Confirmed: Franny's Moving to Former Blockbuster on Flatbush
Artisanal pizza spot will move to larger digs in fall, old spot to become second Italian restaurant.
Franny's the wildly popular artisanal pizza spot on Flatbush Avenue will be moving into larger digs up the street in the fall.
The owners informed staff members a few days ago that the restaurant will relocate to the former site of Blockbusters, at 348 Flatbush Ave. between Sterling Place and Eighth Avenue, a source with information of the move confirmed this morning.
Owners Francine Stephens and Andrew Feinberg plan to turn the current site at 295 Flatbush Ave. into another Italian restaurant in the spring of 2013.
"They're really excited at the prospect of having more space at (the new) Franny's," the source said. "And to be able to seat people without a long wait."
Is delivery in store? One can only hope.
The Prospect Heights/Park Slope icon is known for its local, sustainable, seasonal menu, knowledgeable, helpful staff and kid-friendly atmosphere, not to mention its clam, chile and parsley pie.
It's consistently on the "best of lists," landing the city's eighth best pizza in this year's Zagat, and as the city's 48th best restaurant on New York Magazine’s “101 Best Restaurants in New York” guide (and the only Prospect Heights/Park Slope restaurant to make the list).
The possibility of the move was reported on Eater yesterday afternoon.
In September, Here's Park Slope reported that Michael Pintchik, owner of 348 Flatbush, said "a great restaurant" that "everyone's familiar with" would be moving into the space. Whether he meant Franny's at the time, or had another tenant in mind is not clear.

Franny and Andrew, I'm very excited about your move -- great news and congrats! But, please, in the new space, try to give the tables more room and try to build a quieter room. Your food is superb and the service is often (not always) excellent, but -- for the price -- dining at Franny's is spoiled by the closeness of other diners and the din of noise bouncing off the hard surfaces of your current location. Thanks for considering this. From a neighbor who was one of your very first customers.

I wholeheartedly endorse the comments above by Grand Army - the food and creativity brought to our neighborhood by Franny's is wonderful. The din and overwhelming sense of chaos when the restaurant is full is unbearable - so much so that we've resorted to eating at Franny's only during the months when the lovely garden is open in the back. It's peaceful and much less cacophonous than inside.
Dear Franny - please design your new digs to be more acoustically friendly and you'll have long lines of folks waiting to get in every night!
