Man Beaten, Hit with Bottle by Pack of Thugs: Today's Police Blotter

Plus a hefty wine lift, two bike thefts and a purse stolen.

Pack Attack

A 32-year-old deliveryman was beaten and hit with a beer bottle by a group of five men.

The victim was making a delivery on Lincoln Place between Classon and Franklin at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, when two men jumped him and started punching him. Then three more men came from across the street and joined in the beating. One of the men took a Heineken beer bottle and hit him in the back of the head, causing a gash. The victim was taken to Methodist Hospital. Nothing was stolen. So far, no arrests have been made. 


Wine Lift

A thief made off with $42 worth of booze from a Washington Avenue wine store. 
He took three bottles from The Winey Neighbor, between St. Marks and Prospect: an appropriately named Bandit Pinot Grigio, as well as a Puntapay Viognier and a Tussock Juniper Sauve Blanc at about 5:15 p.m. on May 7.


Bike Thefts

Two bikes were reported stolen in separate incidents in the middle of May:

- A 53-year-old man told cops he saw a crook steal his bike, which was locked to a bike rack on Underhill Avenue between St. Johns and Sterling. The crook rode off on the bike and cops were unable to find him. The theft took place on May 13 just before 11:30 p.m. 

- A 26-year-old man reported that someone stole his $625 Trek T-2 bicycle after he left in the the hallway of his apartment building. The bike was taken on May 10 sometime between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. from the building, located on Franklin Avenue between St. Johns and Lincoln places. The report did not indicate whether the bike was locked. 


Purse Theft


A 23-year-old woman was at Franklin Park on April 14 just after 1:30 a.m. when she discovered her purse missing. When she found it, $750 worth of property including had been taken including an android phone, cash and a passport. Franklin Park is a bar at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Park Place.
