Founded in 2001, Heart of Brooklyn is a non-profit partnership between the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, BrooklynMore Children’s Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, Prospect Park and Prospect Park Zoo. The organization is dedicated to promoting local tourism, bettering neighborhoods and increasing the visibility of local cultural and artistic institutions. Built in 1941, the Central Library is the primary reference center for the Brooklyn Public Library system. The building,More a historical landmark, is shaped like an open book, with the large, gold-accented entrance as the book's spine. Inside, Brooklyn residents can take advantage of the library's substantial collection: it houses over one million books, magazines and multimedia materials, and includes a foreign language center, a resource center for job seekers and a performance space. The library hosts many lectures, panels and classes every month.

This cafe counter in the lobby (and in warm weather on the steps) of the Brooklyn Public Library's Grand Army PlazaMore branch serves breakfast fare such as coffee, croissants, muffins and eggs on a roll. Lunch/dinner items such as sandwiches, salads, hamburgers, and hot dogs are also available, along with desserts such as cookies, ice cream and Rice Krispies Treats. There are tables and chairs for patrons.
