When I first met Principal Soto I got this great feeling from her so I took a chance and believed in her and her vision for P.S. 705. And I must say I made the right choice for my daughter. Is this a paid advertisement for Success Academies? It sure reads like one, with a link and…Read More everything!
How about some unbiased reporting? Almost 40,000 kids applied for gifted schools through testing - so what does the purported demand for SA tell us? Over the last few days, it's been in the news that charter schools in Boston have admitted their so-called "demand" numbers are inflated - so, again, what does the purported demand for SA really tell us?
Also, sloppy reporting: The figures you cite have nothing to do with enrollment - they're application numbers, which is very different from enrollment! You can apply to as many charter schools as you want, and get admitted to all of them. But you can only enroll at one - and in fact many enroll at no charter school despite having applied as a safety - preferring their zoned school or other options. This is why, after all the purported "demand" for these schools, many of them wind up with plenty of empty seats come September.
Last, there is no Success Academy in Prospect Heights. There will be two in Crown Heights.

The American Council on Education? That sounds official! How about Pearson? A For Profit…Read More institution! When the GED program was sold to a For Profit institution, all validity went out the window! This is not a program with the students' best interests now... it is about corporate profit. Let's here it for New York. I hope many states follow... and in droves!

No Dudley, they thrive on safety,(both for them and the general public, rember union members and…Read More their families reside in the city, and pay taxes as well)management has historicaly blamed the people who actually do the work when things go wrong, never on themselves, the only inefficency there is, is that which comes from the lack of proper managerial skills and if spending millions of taxpayer monies on ''outside consultants'' that you don't know, please tell me where have you been,it's been an ongoing issue during all Three of Mayor Bloomberg's administrations

Inefficiency appears to be a major culprit. Now, if these "outside consultants" mentioned above are complicit in that inefficiency, I don't know. But I do know that historically, unions have done everything in their power to obstruct reform of any kind. They thrive on inefficiency, because it increases demand for labor.

I agree an SSA need to be protected in order to help others. How? Each agent should have a bullet…Read More proof / stab vest. They should also carry batons and pepper spray. These items along with practical training, active shooter, hard /soft lockdowns will help the officers to provide safety to our public schools. Times are different we must change with them or we will fail. These new items would prove to be of benefit in regards to outsiders for the most part.

What a scam Walcott is pulling. The DOE long-ago decided to put the money that could be used to save…Read More cash-starved programs into useless programs no one wanted (ARIS, TDRs, Group Merit Pay programs, etc.). Walcott is using the media to scare parents into supporting an evaluation system that will put more and more emphasis on teaching to the test (meaning schools will cut the programs he is talking about in favor of test-prep). Don't believe his hype!
