Newscruncher is a daily series that breaks down the characteristics of your town by the numbers. If you see any technical issues with this map (like an "N/A" value on an important part of town), or if you'd like to suggest ideas for future Newscruncher articles, please email data@patch.com.

The map above shows a snapshot of the percentage of homes across town that decreased in value from October 2012 to October 2013.

October was the second month in a row wherein home values decreased nationwide. It marks the first time in two years that this has happened.

But the drop wasn’t entirely surprising after months of increases in home values this year.

Overall next year, home values are expected to go up by 3 percent. In fact, they’ve started to increase again just last month by 0.6 percent nationally. However, the rise in 2014 is expected to be softer than this year's.

The data in this map are from Zillow, a real estate Web site. Using your cursor, you can hover over any area of town and see in the box in the upper right hand corner of the map the percentage of homes whose values decreased there. Zillow is a Patch Partner.
