Months after Hurricane Sandy, city officials have reconfigured hurricane evacuation zones in all five boroughs and listed new shelters online – including three in the Prospect Heights vicinity.

The city is now divided into six zones, replacing Zones A, B and C. As a result, 600,000 more residents have been incorporated into evacuation zones.

The hurricane shelters closest to Prospect Heights are John Jay High School at 237 7th Ave., Clara Barton High School at 901 Classon Ave. and The Caton School at 18 Marlborough Rd.

“Being prepared for any emergency is the best way to keep you and your family safe – know your hurricane evacuation zone number,” said Joseph Bruno, commissioner of the Office of Emergency Management. “Make an emergency plan with your family. Always have a go bag packed with essentials you may need in the event that you have to leave your house at a moment’s notice.”

Check out the Hurricane Evacuation Zone Finder or call 311 to find your zone.
