Food Drive at Bar Sepia

Canned and non-perishable items can be dropped off through Dec. 21.

Time to clean out the pantry!

, 234 Underhill Ave. at Lincoln Place, is collecting canned food and other non-perishable items from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. every day through Dec. 21.

The food will be donated to three organizations: Bedford Central Presbyterian Church in Crown Heights, Hope City Empowerment Center, 650 Washington Ave. (bet. Bergen and Dean), and Black Veterans for Social Justice, in Bed-Stuy.

The Underhill Avenue bar has been doing a holiday food or clothing drive since it opened in 2004. Plus, after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, it collected three rooms of stuff, which Owner Delissa Reynolds drove down in a truck with several other community members.

This year’s drive will likely be smaller (two crates of food have been collected so far). But the need is just as urgent.

“A lot of food pantries are suffering right now and they’re closing. There’s a huge population of homeless people and people who just can’t make ends meet to put food on the table,” Reynolds said.

“We’re all struggling,” she said, adding that if each person brings in just one can, it will make a difference. In addition, the NYPD is holding its annual coat drive through Dec. 31. You can drop off coats at any police station, including the 78th Precinct at Sixth Avenue and Bergen Street.
