Ready, Set, Kindergarten! Stories and activities for preschoolers to help them get ready for kindergarten. Weekly through July 21. , 10 Grand Army Plaza, 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. 3-5 years old. Free.

 The Carousel is open Thursdays through Sundays and school holidays, 12 to 5 p.m. $2 per ride; $9 for a book of five tickets. Enter Prospect Park at the Willink entrance, located at Ocean and Flatbush Avenues and Empire Boulevard.

Lefferts House Events Today the historic house is hosting Race Around the Farmyard, where the whole family can participate in potato sack races, stilts and other old-fashioned games (2:30 to 3:30 p.m.) Lefferts Historic House at Prospect Park (Use entrance at Empire Boulevard and Flatbush and Ocean Avenues), Kids free, $3 suggested for adults.

 Make all-natural and recycled crafts with a new project each week. The Audubon Center at the Boathouse (just inside the Lincoln Road/Ocean Ave. entrance to Prospect Park). 1-2 p.m., all ages, Free.

Transit Museum: Junior Engineer, How Things Go! New York City is bursting with things that go! Vehicles on the streets and down underground—east and west and all around town. Visit our Education Center’s “testing laboratory” to experiment with fanciful balloon-powered cars and much more! For ages 4+ 1:30 p.m. New York Transit Museum, Corner of Boerum Pl & Schermerhorn St, 1:30 p.m., Free with museum admission (adults $7, kids 2-17 and seniors $5).   

Puppetworks' The Jungle Book Rudyard Kipling's 1894 fables of India
with an original song score adapted for Marionettes. Suggested for kids 3+. Reservations suggested at 718-965-3391 or puppetworks@verizon.net. 338 Sixth Ave. at Fourth Street. 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. $8 adults, $7 kids (note, no credit cards accepted).

Special Events

 This free program offers kids quality fishing instruction and an introduction to aquatic ecology. Children 15 and under, accompanied by parent/guardian, will learn about recreational fishing, fishing safety, and fish-friendly techniques, all while casting their lines on a spectacular summer day in the Park! Kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Lefferts House Events Today the historic house is hosting . From the Prospect Park Alliance website: "On July 4th, 1827, slavery was abolished in New York State. For many years this event was marked with annual celebrations. Revive this tradition by listening to stories of the struggle for African-American freedom, making your own Emancipation Day button, and strutting proudly in celebration as they did back then." Lefferts Historic House at Prospect Park (Use entrance at Empire Boulevard and Flatbush and Ocean Avenues), Kids free, $3 suggested for adults.

 Storyteller and musician Tammy Hall brings the age-old art of storytelling to Prospect Park. Gather under the big tree at Lefferts Historic House and be engaged and enchanted by stories from around the world. Lincoln Road and Ocean Avenue, 2 p.m. Free.

Prospect Park Discover Tour Find out how to use binoculars to spot some of the incredible species of birds that call Prospect Park home. Learn the history of the Boathouse and see little-known curiosities about the Park and its animal residents. Meet at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse (just inside the Lincoln Road/Ocean Ave. entrance to Prospect Park). For adults and older kids. 3-4 p.m. Free.

Prospect Park Zoo Events On Saturdays and Sundays, there are events for kids going on all day including sea lion feedings, keeper chats, close-up encounters with individual animals and more. See today's schedule here. , 450 Flatbush Avenue. Free with zoo admission of $8 adults, $5 kids 3-12.

  Our Folklore— a children cultural arts & literacy organization dedicated to preserving and learning the many traditional art forms and history of Africa and the Caribbean—presents the dances of Africa and the Caribbean at the 41st International African Arts Street Festival. Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn on Navy Street (Park & Flushing Ave) 1 p.m. Free. 

Weekly Events:

Toddler Story Play Kids ages 12 to 36 months play with toys and hear stories. Space is limited, so get to the library early and pick up a ticket at the reference desk. , Youth Wing, 10:15 and 11 a.m., Free.  

Preschool Story & Craft Hear a story and make a craft. For ages 3 to 6. , Youth Wing, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Free.

 Each week Annie Nieves will lead the group in an art project that promotes creativity and experimentation. The class also includes some independent play and concludes with music and a sing-a-long. For ages 2-5. , 755 Dean St. at Underhill. 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. $10/child ($5/additional sibling).

Sea Lion Feeding This daily event features the Prospect Park Zoo sea lions showing off their dives, catching fish mid-air and other tricks. , 450 Flatbush Avenue, 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m., Free with zoo admission of $8 adults, $5 kids 3-12.
