Heat Advisory In Effect Until 9 p.m. Tuesday

Temperatures expected to reach the high 90s; precautions advised.

 

The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. Monday to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Heat indexes are expected to soar into the high 90s and 100s Monday and Tuesday.

Heat waves are particularly dangerous for children, seniors, people with cardiovascular disease, and those taking psychotropic and other medications, according to the city's Office of Emergency Management. In July and August of 2006, extreme heat claimed 46 lives.

The NWS advises residents to take precautions against heat stress, including avoiding strenuous activity outdoors, drinking plenty of water and to wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
