5 Things: July 4 Fireworks and Independence Day Kids Events

Prospect Heights-area subway, alternate side and event information you won't want to miss.

1. You need Fireworks. There aren't any fireworks in Brooklyn we know of tonight, and since Macy's moved the fireworks from the East River to the Hudson we don't think you will be able to see them from your rooftop, so hop a train to Manhattan and grab a spot between 24th and 57th street as far West as you can get. The show starts at 9:20 p.m. (but get there early for a decent spot). Free.

2. You need absurdist rock cabaret. Head to  for the unique sounds of the . 683 Washington Ave. bet. St. Marks and Prospect. 8 p.m. Free.

4. You need to know if your train is running ... It is! There are no planned service changes affecting Prospect Heights stations today. Trains will run on a Saturday schedule, with extra night trains on the 1, A, C, E, L and 42nd Street Shuttle S following the Macy's fireworks celebration, which will take place over the Hudson River between 18th and 43rd Streets from 9:20 p.m. to 9:50 p.m., according to the MTA.

5. ... and if you have to move your car. Of course you don't, it's July 4th. But  since Wednesdays are of zero help to Prospect Heighters, note that the next ASP suspension that actually helps us will be on Monday, August 20 for Idul-Fitr, according to the NYCDOT
