5 (Free) Things: New Orleans Jazz, Elvis Death Party and Carousel Rides

Prospect Heights-area events and information you won't want to miss.

 

1. You need New Orleans jazz. Head to , where tonight there's an evening of New Orleans jazz in partnership with WBGO. All the galleries will also be open to take in the art. Find out how to reserve a spot at the concert at the link. 200 Eastern Pkwy, 7 p.m. $12 suggested admission. 

2. You need peanut butter, bacon and bananna sliders. Celebrate the life of The King at the , where the sandwhiches are free and the crowd is always fun. Live music by Michael Lebess, Daniel Wayne and Jim Greene. , 683 Washington Ave. bet. St. Marks and Prospect, Free.

3. You need to get the kids out of the house. Head to Prospect Park where there are  on Thursdays in August from 12 to 6 p.m. Enter Prospect Park at the Willink entrance, located at Ocean and Flatbush Avenues and Empire Boulevard (take the Q to Prospect Park or stroll through the park on the Flatbush side). See our weekly list of  for more options. 

5. You need to know if your train is running ... and if you have to move your car. Between midnight and 5 a.m. all week, Manhattan-bound No. 4 trains skip Bergen Street, Grand Army Plaza and Eastern Parkway and Manhattan-bound Q trains will run through the tunnel, according to the MTA, so leave extra time. For drivers, alternate side is in effect today. The next suspension is Monday and Tuesday, August 20-21 for Idul-Fitr, according to the NYCDOT.
