Nets Reach Out to Phil Jackson: Report

Everyone is familiar with the axiom "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." After their Game 7 loss, the Nets seem to be thinking "if you can't beat 'em, hire their all-time winningest coach."

The Brooklyn Nets have reached out to former Bulls and Lakers head coach Phil Jackson to gauge his interest in their now vacant top job, according to ESPN.com.

The Nets fired P.J. Carlesimo over the weekend, after losing Game 7 to the Bulls in the Barclays Center. Carlesimo told the sports news giant in an interview Monday that only winning a title likely would have earned him a full season as Nets coach.

Jackson is famous for guiding teams with top-flight talent like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen in the 90's, and Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal after that. Both teams won multiple NBA titles.

Whether he could do the same for the Nets 1-2 punch of Deron Williams and Joe Johnson is a bigger question. Williams is certainly no Jordan and Johnson would never be confused with the likes of Pippen or O'Neal.

Other names reportedly on the Nets shopping list are former 76er's and Bobcats coach Larry Brown and current Celtics coach Doc Rivers, ESPN said.

Would you like to see Phil Jackson prowling the Nets sideline running the triangle offense next season? Do you think he would take the job? Tell us in the comments.
