Nets, Knicks Players Talk Smack as Off-Season Heats Up

Pierce gets flack after saying NYC will be a Nets town.

The start of basketball season is still more than two months away, and already a war of words is heating up between the Brooklyn Nets and their well-established rivals across the East River.

New Nets acquisition Paul Pierce — the team's starting small forward — said recently in a radio interview that he thought New York City would eventually be a Brooklyn Nets town.

New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton told ESPN.com on Sunday that Pierce was sadly mistaken.

"They will never take over the city. Because we've got 'New York' on our chest," Felton told ESPN. "They've got 'Brooklyn' on their chest, and we've got 'New York.' They'll never take over the city."

There's still quite a bit of time before the two teams go head to head. The first meeting between the Knicks and Nets this season will be Dec. 5 at the Barclays Center.
