YIN YOGA with SARAH FRIEND

COME EXPERIENCE THIS UNIQUELY RESTORATIVE AND BALANCING YOGA PRACTICE

Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other school of yoga; however, it directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues (which we are calling the yang tissues). Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles.

An editor by day, dancer and yogi by night, Sarah Friend, RYT, is a lover of self-expression through movement. Sarah first stepped on a mat just days after moving to California at age seventeen, and in the wake of experiencing yoga's ability to open spaces that once were constricted, quickly became a devotee. During the last ten years, she's taken up a hodgepodge practice that includes many styles, her favorite being Vinyasa, Anusara and Yin. In January 2011, Sarah completed her 200-hour teacher training at the Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra, and Aryuveda (ISHTA), and is also certified in Yin Yoga. Sarah is grateful to and inspired by all of her teachers and students, with whom she hopes to continue to share her practice and encourage others to do the same.

Once a month, Force and Flow offers a community class by donation. Each month we invite a different teacher from a variety of mind-body modalities that we feel the community would benefit from experiencing. Past classes have included Alexander Technique, Qi Gong, Authentic Movement, Pilates on the Ball, Shamanic Guided Meditation and more. If you would like to teach a community class, please email us with details at info@forceandflow.com.
