Pre-K Admission Now Open

The deadline for public school Pre-K programs is April 5.

The Department of Education has launched the pre-kindergarten admission process for the 2012-2013 school year for New York City children born in 2008.

For a list of all public school and community-based organization pre-kindergarten programs, families should check out the Pre-K Directory online, visit a Brooklyn-based enrollment office, or stop by any public elementary school with a pre-kindergarten program.

Families can submit the application either online or in person at a borough enrollment office.  A complete list of locations is available online.

The application deadline for public schools is April 5. The DOE will notify families in early June about public school placements.

The application for Community-Based Organization (CBO) pre-k programs is available at CBO program sites and on the DOE’s web site. Families should return applications for CBO programs directly to the providers they choose, and will be notified by CBOs about their placement. Because CBOs may continue to accept applications as long as they have openings, families are encouraged to contact CBOs about seat availability before they apply.

The DOE will also hold pre-kindergarten information sessions throughout the city, where representatives from the Office of Student Enrollment and the Office of Early Childhood Education will share information about pre-kindergarten programs and the admissions process. Translation and interpretation services will be provided. In addition, parents can text 877877 for ongoing updates on the admissions process.

The information session for Brooklyn families will be held on March 12 at Sunset Park High School, 153 35th Street, from 6 –7:30 p.m.
