Despite its man-made origins, Prospect Park Lake is a typical shallow lake that supports a rich wildlife right here in the middle of Brooklyn. But much like many other shallow urban lakes all around the world, our lake is reacting to decades of nutrient overload in undesirable ways, such as supporting blooms of nuisance aquatic plant and algae species. In this lecture, Dr. Branco will explain how shallow lakes operate as physical, chemical and biological systems and share his observations on the state of Prospect Park Lake over the past four years.
