State Board to Discuss Whether Atlantic Yards 25-Year Buildout Plan 'Burdens' Area

Public invited to Thursday's Manhattan meeting of the Empire State Development Corporation.

On Thursday the Empire State Development Corporation Board of Directors will convene in a meeting open to the public for observation and comment.

The meeting agenda includes voting on a document stating that the potential 25-year buildout of Atlantic Yards does not require a Supplemental Impact Statement (SEIS).

The document argues that an impact statement is not needed because  completing the project in 25 years, rather than 10, will not burden the surrounding communities.

News of the vote was reported earlier in the blog Atlantic Yards Report.

The meeting agenda only states that the second agenda item will be an "Adoption of Findings Related to the Atlantic Yards Land Use Improvement and Civic Project."

Last month, Supreme Court Justice Marcy Friedman ruled in favor of two community coalitions on the Atlantic Yards timetable. She remanded the proceedings to ESDC to present findings on the impact of the Development Agreement, and on whether a SEIS will be required. The hearing is scheduled for December 22.

Any community members interested in attending the Board of Directors meeting at 10:30 a.m., Thursday on Third Avenue in Manhattan must RSVP by 5:00 pm on Wednesday to (212) 803-3794. The meeting will also be webcast.
