Quinn Drops to Third in New Mayoral Poll

Rocky August ends with a thud for Quinn campaign.

The hits just keep on coming for Bill de Blasio, and the news for Christine Quinn is getting worse and worse.

In a Siena College poll released Friday morning, Quinn had dropped to third in the Democratic race for mayor, trailing the surging de Blasio and one point behind perennial second-place finisher Bill Thompson.

According to the poll, de Blasio had the support of 32 percent of Democrats, well clear of Bill Thompson, who had 18 percent and Quinn, who had 17 percent.

The outer boroughs were buoying de Blasio's success, the poll said, and found that voters were most confident in his ability to solve city issues like job creation and working with the police.

“With less than two weeks until primary day, Bill de Blasio has put a lot of distance between himself and the rest of the pack. He has the support of nearly one-third of likely Democratic voters while his nearest competitors are in the teens,” said Steven Greenberg, of Siena College “De Blasio has significant double digit leads in Brooklyn and Queens, where Thompson is in second place, he is nearly tied with Quinn in Manhattan, and he is virtually tied with Thompson in the Bronx."

In addition to the trouble for Quinn, the poll also found a big lead for Spitzer among Democrats in the race for Comptroller. That runs contrary to a Quinnipiac poll released Thursday, that found the race was a dead heat between Spitzer and Scott Stringer.
