Obama: Country Needs More Schools Like Brooklyn's P-Tech

President praises school's forward-thinking approach in speech Friday.

During a visit to Crown Heights Friday, President Barack Obama praised a local school for its innovative approach to learning, holding it up as a model for the rest of the country.

The president arrived in Brooklyn Friday afternoon, landing a helicopter in Prospect Park, not far from the Park Slope brownstone he lived in decades ago. After arriving at the Pathways in Technology Early College High School, Obama talked about the importance of using the school as a model for others across the country.

"The question can’t be how much more we can cut," Obama said. "It’s got to be how many more schools like P-TECH we can create."

Obama also took a moment to slam Congress — mostly because it's super-easy to earn points doing that.

"I just sat in on a lesson called 'Real-World Math' which got me thinking: Is it too late to send Congress here?" Obama jokingly (or maybe no so jokingly) asked.

P-Tech in Crown Heights wasn't the only the the president liked about his visit, apparently. According to NBC4, he praised the borough for its unending supply of cool.

"I know Brooklyn in general is blowing up right now," he said. "When I was living here, Brooklyn was cool, but not this cool."
