The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens and Nassau County until 6:30 p.m.
They urge residents not to drive onto flooded roadways.
"Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear," the warning reads, adding that drivers encountering flooded roads should "make the smart choice...turn around...don't drown."
The alert also warns residents that flooding is imminent and to move to higher ground, but according to NYC.gov's hurricane evacuation zone finder and map (see photo gallery) Prospect Heights along with most of Brooklyn and Manhattan is not in a flood zone.
