'Girls' Star Joins New York Political Circus

Lena Dunham backs Quinn, Stringer to legion of Twitter followers.

If the last week is any indication, this once-boring New york City political summer is likely to be a blast.

On the heels of Eliot Spitzer's entrance into the comptroller race, Lena Dunham, the young mastermind behind the HBO series Girls, did a little politicking via Twitter Thursday morning, throwing New York's social media scene into a mild spasm.

Brooklyn resident Dunham fired off a pair of endorsements, backing comptroller candidate Scott Stringer and mayoral candidate Christine Quinn.

"I'm passionate about the idea of the first woman mayor. Plus@ChrisCQuinn is tough, results oriented & can handle a City as complex as NY," Dunham wrote.

She also said Stringer possessed "executive realness" which I think we can all agree is a phrase that will now be used in job interviews for management positions in every field.

I look forward to the endorsements from the casts of The Newsroom and Parks and Recreation. Brooklyn resident Dunham fired off a pair of endorsements, backing comptroller candidate Scott Stringer and mayoral candidate Christine Quinn.
