Broken Pedestrian Traffic Signal in Prospect Park

This story was written by Will Yakowicz

A pedestrian traffic signal along Prospect Park's drive, which displays a white figure when it's safe to cross and an orange hand when it's not, has been damaged.

Although the pedestrian signal still lights up and changes in-sync with the red light, it is hanging upside down and almost completely broken off the poll.

This broken signal is in the crosswalk on on West Drive between Long Meadow and the Third Street Playground. This particular stretch of the 3.5-mile long drive is very busy and gets a lot of pedestrian traffic crossing into and out of the park, as well as bikers, roller skaters, skateboarders and cars (only during morning and evening rush hours) driving through it.

Paul Nelson, the spokesman for Prospect Park Alliance, said that they have alerted Department of Transportation.
