Violent Mugging at Wash Ave ATM: Reports from the 77th Precinct

Plus two burglaries near Carlton Avenue, a Washington Avenue bar purse swipe, and a marijuana arrest.

Violent ATM Robbery on Washington Avenue

A 23-year-old man was taking money of an ATM at the Capital One Bank on Washington Avenue when someone came up behind him and hit him on the back of the head. The man dropped the $380 he had just withdrawn and the thief scooped it up and fled in a 2012 Silver Kia Optima, according to a police report. 

The victim told cops he had run into the thief before when the robber had asked him to “take down his number in case he needed any iPods.”

The crime took place on Friday, Nov. 23 just before 5 p.m. 

 

Washington Avenue Purse Swipe

A 24-year-old woman reported that someone took her pocketbook while it was sitting right next to her at a bar on Washington Avenue near Prospect Place. She lost about $1,000 worth of property including a neckace, iPod, cell phone, video camera and her wallet. The crime took place at around midnight on Oct. 31. The police report did not say which bar the woman was in.

 

Burglary on Park Place

A crook stole $1,600 worth of jewelry from a Park Place apartment sometime during a four-month open house between July 21 and Dec. 4.

The 28-year-old victim told police that her landlord held an open house at her apartment, between between Flatbush and Vanderbilt, several times over a period of four months without her permission. The vicitim kept her jewelry, a man's wedding band, an engagement ring and diamond hoop earings, in her jewelry box in her bedroom and last saw the items July 21 at 10 p.m. When she went to get out her jewelry on Dec. 4, her $1,600 worth of treasures were gone.

 

Prospect Place Break-In

A theif broke into a Prospect Place apartment and stole over $3,000 worth of electronics on Dec. 9.

The 24-year-old vicitim told police that she left her home, between Flatbush and Carlton avenues, at around 7 p.m. When she returned at around 8:30 p.m., she found that the front door unlocked and the back window off the fire escape open. The crook stole her Apple laptop, digital camera and e-reader, worth a total of $3,379.

 

Marijuana Arrest

Police arrested a 47-year-old man after one of them said he was standing in public view holding a marijuana cigar on Washington Avenue between St. Johns and Lincoln places. Back at the station cops found a ziplock bag full of marijuana in the man's sock.
