Three Men Mug Woman, Attempt to Rob Restaurant

After failing to rob Teddy's restaurant, the men stole a woman's purse.

Three men attempted to rob on Washington Ave. Tuesday evening and then, while fleeing, mugged a woman along Lincoln Place.

The three men, whom the security video showed to be black and dressed in hoodies, entered Teddy's some time after 6 p.m., although the owner, Teddy Pappas, was not certain of the exact time. One pointed a gun at Agnus Wu, a 55-year-old woman who works behind the register at Teddy's.

Wu said they yelled, "give me the money," opened the top drawer of the register, which didn't have any cash in it, and bolted with nothing but a few extraneous papers.

Moments later, Shannon McArdle, a 34-year-old high school teacher who has lived in Prospect Heights for over 10 years, was walking down Lincoln Place between Classon and Washington Avenues when a man, "screaming and flailing his arms," shoved a gun in her face and demanded her purse.

"I threw him my bag," McArdle said, adding that her cell phone, wallet and several students' papers were inside.

She said she wasn't how many there were – "I was just focused on the one guy" – but an officer at the scene said he believed the man who mugged McArdle was part of the same group that had attempted to rob Teddy's moments before.

The New York Police Department said they did not have any further information on the incident at this time.
