Muggings Continue with Three in One Night

Late-night hold-ups near the Franklin Avenue train station follow at least four similar robberies the previous week.

Three people were held up Thursday night, continuing  within a few blocks of the Franklin Avenue train station, according to police reports.

A 26-year-old woman was walking westbound along Eastern Parkway towards Underhill when, just after 1 a.m., a teen of about 15 or 16 showed her a small caliber silver handgun and said “give me all you got.”

The woman handed over her $350 designer purse, which held her wallet and keys.

A half hour later, a 27-year-old man was held up as he was walking eastbound on Sterling Place at Classon Avenue when a teen of 15 or 16 years old showed the man a small caliber silver handgun and said, “Do you have a phone? Give me everything you got.”

The man gave him his wallet and cell phone and the robber ran off.

The woman described her mugger as a black man with brown eyes, black hair and clear, dark skin wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans.

The man described his mugger as African American, 5-foot-8 and 140 pounds with brown eyes, black hair and a clear dark complexion. But the man called the jeans dark” and said the teen was wearing a black ski jacket.

In addition, a 22-year-old woman was walking on Sterling Place between Franklin and Bedford at 10:50 p.m. that same night and noticed someone following her. The man caught up, showed her a silver handgun and asked for her wallet and phone. She handed them over and the man left.

The 22-year-old described the man as standing 5-foot-8 with dark skin wearing a green ski jacket and blue jeans.

Officer Tania Salters said last week that the 77th Precinct has increased foot patrols in the area. She urges victims to call 911 immediately to give police the best chance of catching the mugger.
