Prominent Preacher Defends Stop-And-Frisk

The Rev. Floyd Flake, pastor of one of the city’s largest congregations, said that stop-and-frisk keeps communities safe.

A prominent black preacher has come out in support of the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk policy, calling it an “appropriate” tactic against crime, according to the New York Post.

The article says that the Rev. Floyd Flake, pastor of one of the city’s largest congregations, Greater Allen AME Church in Queens, said on NY1’s “Inside City Hall" that he believes that “stop-and-frisk is an important element to try to stop crime in the community.”

“You can’t afford to take away so much (of stop-and-frisk) that you get back to where you were when people were getting killed even more regularly,” Flake said, according to the paper.

A class-action lawsuit in May argues that , tough, with officers making most of their stops in largely back and Latino communities.

A host of elected officials including Prospect Heights' ,  and  have been vocal critics of the policy, as well.
