A dispute between two men turned violent yesterday, leaving one of the men and a bystander dead, and two police officers wounded.
The incident began last night inside of an apartment building on Park Place, at Franklin Avenue, according to officials. Leroy Webster, 32, allegedly shot Eusi Johnson, 29, in the neck with a 9mm handgun after the two men were involved in an altercation, according to officials. Webster then fled towards the Franklin Avenue S shuttle station.
Johnson was transported to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to reports.
Webster is currently at Kings County Hospital, according to officials.
During the incident, police officer Avichaim Dicken was shot in the arm, according to officials. The officer was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he is in stable condition. A second officer, Omar Medina, was also hit in the arm and chest, and was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he is also in stable condition, according to reports.
In addition, 56-year-old Denise Gay was confirmed dead on the scene, a victim of a stray bullet to the head, according to officials. The woman was sitting on the stoop of her Park Place home a few doors down with her daughter when the shots were fired, according to officials.
Franklin Avenue remains closed between St. Marks Avenue and Sterling Place. S shuttle stations have re-opened and service has resumed.
