Police Blotter: Vanderbilt Avenue Burglaries, Man Punched on Street, Cadillac Break-In

Vanderbilt Avenue Burglaries

A thief broke into three Vanderbilt Avenue apartments Monday, making of with thousands of dollars worth of goods, and propping chairs against the doors to prevent the residents from getting back in.

The thefts took place at an apartment building on Vanderbilt Avenue between Bergen and Dean streets on Monday, Feb. 27 between 10:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.

In all, the thief made off with $4,450 worth of goods including three computers, one of which was broken, three cameras, Oakley sunglasses, a German knife a guitar, a PlayStation and 25 video games. The thief also took two passports, blank checks and financial information and damage a flat-screened television, according to a police report.  

 

61-Year-Old Punched on Vanderbilt

A 61-year-old man was punched in the face Sunday on Vanderbilt Avenue.

The man was standing on the avenue between Bergen and St. Marks at about 8 p.m. on Feb. 26 when a younger man slugged him, giving him a black eye and bloody nose. The attacker then took off in a car, according to a police report. The report did not give a reason for the attack.

 

Cadillac Break-In

A thief broke into a Cadillac and stole two seats and a navigation system worth a total of $1,500. The 2007 Escalade was parked on Lincoln Place at Franklin when it was broken into sometime between 10:30 p.m. on Feb 20 and 8:15 the next morning, according to a police report.
