Police Blotter: Taxi Driver Hit-and-Run and $600 Mattress Theft

Underhill Hit-and-Run

Police are looking for a taxi driver who hit a man and then drove off. The 23-year-old victim was crossing Underhill at Park place when a Crown Victoria cab traveling southbound struck him on his right side, causing bleeding and pain. The accident took place at 5:55 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, according to a police report.

$600 Mattress Theft

A 46-year-old man received quite a welcome to the neighborhood ager someone swiped his $600 matrress off the sidewalk as he was moving into a Sterling Place apartment. The theft took place between 10:25 and 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24 between Franklin and Bedford avenues, according to a police report. 

 

Front Door Vandalism

A 30-year-old woman discovered when she got home that someone had put something into her keyhole, preventing her from opening the door. The vandalism took place on Classon Avenue near Dean Street sometime between 10 a.m. and 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, according to a police report.

 

6 Crack Cocaine and Marijuana Arrests

At least six people have been arrested on drug charges in the past few weeks, according to police reports:

- A 27-year-old man was charged with intent to sell a controlled substance after he was found with crack cocaine, marijuana and narcotics paraphernalia inside a St. Marks Avenue home between Classon and Franklin avenues. The man was arrested at 8:25 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.

- A 55-year-old man was charged with drug possession after a cop spotted him with a marijuana cigarette in public view. Back at the station cops also found a Ziploc bag of marijuana on the man. The arrest took place at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Bergen Street on Saturday, April 27 at 12:48 p.m.

- A 36-year-old man was charged with drug possession after a cop spotted him with a glass pipe containing crack cocaine residue at the same open lot on Pacific Street between Classon and Franklin as above. The arrest took place at 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, April 21.

- A 32-year-old man was arrested after an officer saw him with a baggie of crack. At the station police also found unspecified “drug paraphernalia “on the man that contained crack-cocaine residue. The arrest took place in an open lot on Pacific Street between Classon and Franklin avenues on Wednesday, April 18 at 8:10 p.m

- Just over an hour later, two men, aged 28 and 29 were arrested after cops spotted them with a small amount of marijuana. The 29-year-old was also charged with weapons possession after cops discovered back at the station that he was carrying a gravity knife. The arrest took place at the corner of Classon Avenue and Sterling Place at 9:25 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18.
