Police Blotter: Burglary Nets $12,000, Fake Gun Bust, College Computer Swipe, More

Burglary Nets Thousands in Cash

Someone walked in through the unlocked front door of a home on Eastern Parkway between Classon and Franklin and stole $12,589 in cash. The victim said the burglary took place sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31.

$9,500 Computer Swipe at Medgar Evers

Five computers worth about $9,000 and two speaker docks worth approximately $500 were stolen from an administrative office at Medger Evers College at the corner of Bedford Avenue and Lincoln Place sometime between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday evening Oct. 28. The theft took place at an office that was unlocked and open to a common area.

 

Man Arrested in Fake Gun Bust

Cops arrested a 22-year-old man after they found an imitation pistol under the passenger seat of his car. Officers stopped the man as he was driving his 2003 Ford Taurus at the southwest corner of St. Francis Place and Lincoln Place after the man failed to use his turn signal to make a right turn. The arrest took place at 10:30 pm. On Sunday Oct. 30.  Fake guns are illegal if they’re convincing and the man was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

 

Acorn High Purse Swipe

A teacher at Acorn High School, at the corner of Grand Avenue and Dean Street,  said her purse was stolen from her classroom after she left the room for about five minutes on Friday morning, Oct. 28. She said the Tagnello purse was worth $400 and held a $120 flash drive, her wallet with credit cards, an unlimited metro card, a cell phone and $150 in cash. Cops did a search of the area but couldn’t find the purse or anybody who saw it being swiped.   

 

Cocaine Arrest

A 47-year-old man was arrested and charged with drug possession after a police officer saw him with a crack pipe that had crack/cocaine residue in it. The man was at the corner of Lincoln Place and Franklin Avenue when the arrest took place on Oct. 28 at 11 p.m. Friday.

 

Bike-Seat Bust

A 42-year-old man was arrested and charged with stealing a $100 seat from a bike parked on Bergen Street between Classon and Franklin on Wednesday evening, Oct. 26.
