Officers Honored for Concern for Residents

77th Precinct Officers Richard Humiecki and Frankie Lora named Officers of the Month for their dedication to the community.

Officers Richard Humiecki and Frankie Lora where named Officers of the Month by the 77th Precinct Community Council for their concern for members of the community.

The ceremony took place in front of about 50 community members and politicians during the council's monthly meeting Monday night.

Council President James Caldwell praised the men for their concern for the residents of the 77th Precinct, which includes Prospect Heights, Crown Heights and Weeksville. He gave as an example the men's concern for an older resident who is blind and whose wife recently died. They became aware of the man after the widower went to court to prevent his grandson from harassing him.

"Nobody knows about the compassion, the love and the loyalty these men showed," Caldwell told the crowd. "They're doing it in their own quiet way. I felt they needed to be recognized for their good unselfish work."

"It's easy to do the right thing when your captain tells you to do it," agreed Capt. Elvio Capocci. But, he added to the group, these men took it upon themselves to check in on the man every few weeks on their own.

After the meeting, Lora said that although he has received NYPD awards before, getting one from the Community Council was a new experience for him.

"I'm actually very touched," he said.
