Cop of the Month: Officer Tania Salters

"She's always there for the community," said Deputy Inspector Elvio Capocci, commanding officer of the 77th Precinct.

Officer Tania Salters was honored Monday night as “Cop of the Month” by the 77th Precinct Community Council.

Salters doesn’t track down criminals or walk the beat. Rather she’s the community affairs officer for the precinct, with the job of helping to foster positive police-resident relations.

And at that she’s a natural.

Usually Capocci chooses a cop who has made a particularly noteworthy arrest. “But the whole community council felt that she should get it for overall service and she’s well deserving of it,” he said.

Salters said she was touched by the honor.

"Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always volunteered in my neighborhood and to be able to be a part of the police department, and to continue to work for the community is very important to me,” she said after she accepted the award.

“I come to work every day with a smile knowing that I’m going to work with my partner, Officer Pierre-Louis and also working for all of you. I truly enjoy it.”
