The New York City Police Department launched a brand-new application for iPads and iPhones on Sunday called "NYPD."
The application provides user-friendly, colorful icons to interface with the NYPD on critical, up-to-the minute crime-watching tools, including insider videos, crime statistics and wanted posters and breaking news.
The application not only will help private citizens stay abreast of crime-fighting activities on their block and in their neighborhoods, but also serve as a useful tool for organizations seeking to build or develop a crime-watch coalition.
"[The NYPD] recognizes that community members are our partners in the reduction of crime and improvement of the quality of life in our neighborhoods," said the NYPD. "Technology is a vital tool that connects law enforcement with its communities around the world to help improve safety and security."
The NYPD app includes the following features:
- Wanted Posters
- Submit Tips
- Crime Videos
- Breaking News
- NYPD Facebook
- Inside NYPD Videos
- Crime Statistics
- Precinct Boundaries
- Join NYPD
To get the free app, go to the iTunes store, enter "NYPD," then scroll down to select and download.
