Driver Loses Control, Crashes, on Park Place

Driver was taken to Kings County Medical Center after crashing into two parked cars, witnesses said.

A 35-year-old man was taken to Kings County Hospital Center yesterday afternoon after losing control of his car on Park Place and hitting a truck and another car, witnesses said.

Police did not know the condition of the man, but witnesses said he was conscious and able to speak when paramedics arrived.

Just before 2:30 p.m., a witness heard a silver Nissan Altima revving loudly and turned to see it swerving on Park Place between Classon and Franklin avenues. It narrowly missed a few pedestrians before side-swiping the side of a pick-up truck and swerving to the other side of the street. The car then smashed into the sidewalk and rear-ended the back of a parked car, the witness said.

Witness said that it looked as though the driver had lost control of the car and the only way to stop it was to hit other cars.

Percy Holmes, the car's owner who came to the scene after hearing of the crash, said he lent his friend the car so he could get to his new job at a Manhattan grocery store. He said his friend was an experienced driver and that he spoke to him about an hour before the accident and his friend seemed fine.

After the accident the driver called him, told him of the accident and told him he was OK. Then he corrected himself and said, "No, I'm not ok," Holmes said.

A police officer at the scene said the cause of the crash was still under investigation. A police spokesman did not have any additional details on the crash today.
