Many Trucks, Small Fire

Firefighters quickly douse burning rug on fire escape on St. Johns Place.

What were all those fire trucks doing on St. Johns Place tonight?

It turns out it was a rug burning on the fire escape of 336 St. Johns Place between Underhill and Washington avenues, an FDNY spokesman said.

The FDNY got a call at 5:09 p.m. reporting the fire and "six or seven" trucks rushed to the scene. It turns out it was just the rug, burning on the third floor fire escape of the four-story brick apartment building, the spokesman said.
