Man Charged With Attempted Rape on Bergen Street

Suspect allegedly broke into a 23-year-old woman's apartment and attacked her early Sunday morning.

A man is charged with allegedly breaking into a Bergen Street apartment and trying to rape a 23-year-old woman but then fleeing after her roommates heard the struggle and came to investigate.

The woman told cops she was asleep in her home, located between Grand and Classon avenues, at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, when a man broke into the apartment. The man got on top of her, put his hands over her mouth and tried to pull her pants down, according to a police report.

The woman's roommates heard her trying to fight off the attacker and tried to get into the room, but the door was locked. However the man heard the roommates at the door and let the woman go. Then he unlocked the bedroom door and fled the apartment, the report continued.
