Cops: Man Belts Neighbor ... With Belt

Plus a break-in on St. Marks Avenue, a drunk driving arrest and a car stolen.

Burglary on St. Marks

A thief broke into an apartment on St. Marks Avenue between Classon and Franklin and made off with $3,000 worth of electronics and cash.

The break-in took place on Tuesday, July 9, while the 46-year-old resident was out for the day. Taken were a MacBook Pro laptop, a Nikon camera and about $75 in change.

DWI on Franklin Ave.

Cops arrested a 31-year-old man on charges of intoxicated driving after they saw him driving erratically on Franklin Ave. at the corner of St. Marks. 

Cops spotted the Silver 2000 Mazda drifting between lanes just after 3 a.m. on June 16. Once they stopped him they saw he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, reeked of alcohol, and had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. He refused to take a Breathalyzer test. 

Belt Buckle Attack

A 65-year-old man was arrested on charges of hitting a neighbor on the head and shoulder repeatedly with his belt, using the side with the buckle. 

The 64-year-old victim was walking toward the Dean Street building's laundry room shortly before 10 a.m. on May 13 when the neighbor came up to him and said, "I'm going to kick your ass." Then he took off his belt and starting hitting him with it, a witness confirmed.

The victim suffered cuts to his head and bruises on his back an right shoulder. The suspected attacker was arrested in the building, located between Vanderbilt and Underhill, an hour later and charged with second-degree assault. The police report did not say what (if anything) provoked the dispute. 

Car Stolen on Pacific

A 37-year-old man's Dodge Caravan was stolen from Pacific Street between Grand and Classon overnight between April 14 and 15.
