How Two Unarmed Auxiliary Cops and a Rookie Officer Stopped a Gunman [Video]

77th Precinct commander tells the story behind February's Cop of the Month awards.

Elvio Capocci, head of the 77th Precicnt tells the story of how rookie Police Officer John Wilkinson and two volunteer auxiliary cops, Auxiliary Sergeant Kenson Phillips and Auxiliary Officer Ryan Lander chased down an armed gunman and stoped a spree of violent hold-ups. 

All three received the Feburary Cop of the Month awards from the 77th Precinct Community Council.

At the meeting Gamilah L. Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz discussed her parents' lives with Community Council President James Caldwell, in honor of Black History Month.  

The meeting took place at St. Bartholomew Church, 1227 Pacific Street at Bedford Ave. on Monday, Feb. 11.
