Gun Buyback Collects 85 Firearms
Brooklyn's gun buyback program concluded this weekend, and 85 weapons were removed from the streets.
The concluded on Saturday, and a total of 85 firearms were surrendered and taken off of the streets.
Officers at the Restoration Temple Assembly of God, in Flatbush, received 49 revolvers, 20 semi-automatic weapons, three rifles, four shotguns and nine other weapons (such as zip guns and flares).
Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said, “The guns turned in yesterday bring the total to 1,997 guns taken from the streets of Brooklyn since 2008, when the program began. All of us think this is an effective and sensible way to prevent criminals from getting their hands on these weapons, which can wound, maim or kill innocent people.”

According Hynes, the next buyback program will be held on December 17, at a church location to be announced.
New York State Senator Malcolm Smith funded the program, and individuals received a $200 bank card for surrendering a weapon.
