Grad Student From Brooklyn Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on LI

Artem Ayzen is killed in crash in Stony Brook Wednesday night, police say.

A Stony Brook University graduate student from Brooklyn was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while he was rollerblading near the Stony Brook campus Wednesday night, police said. 

According to police, Artem G. Ayzen, 25, was rollerblading on North Country Road when he was hit by a vehicle that was heading east on the road shortly before 11 p.m. 

The driver fled the scene in a vehicle described as a dark-colored SUV, with front-end damage, police said.

Ayzen, who lived in Brooklyn, was transported via Stony Brook Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

Ayzen was a Latvian native, according to his Facebook profile. He worked as a research assistant at Stony Brook and was studying toward his doctorate in electrical and electronics engineering, according to info on his LinkedIn page

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed or has information on the crash to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220- TIPS.
